Job Description: Transportation Planner
The Transportation Planner is responsible for overseeing and coordinating transportation activities to ensure efficient and cost-effective movement of goods and materials. They play a vital role in developing transportation strategies, optimizing routes, and improving overall transportation operations. The Transportation Planner works closely with various stakeholders, including logistics teams, suppliers, and carriers, to meet customer demands and deliver exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement transportation plans and strategies to optimize delivery routes, minimize costs, and enhance operational efficiency.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to forecast transportation needs and ensure timely availability of resources.
3. Analyze transportation data, including volume, costs, and performance metrics, to identify areas for improvement and develop action plans.
4. Evaluate carrier performance, negotiate contracts, and establish service level agreements to maintain a high standard of service.
5. Coordinate with suppliers and logistics teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of goods, while adhering to quality and safety standards.
6. Continuously monitor transportation activities, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions.
7. Stay updated with industry trends, regulations, and technological advancements to recommend innovative solutions and best practices.
8. Utilize transportation management systems (TMS) and other tools to track shipments, analyze data, and generate reports for management review.
9. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve transportation-related issues and optimize supply chain processes.
10. Participate in the development and implementation of transportation-related policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
2. Proven experience (X years) in transportation planning, logistics, or a similar role.
3. In-depth knowledge of transportation operations, including routing, scheduling, and carrier management.
4. Proficiency in using transportation management systems (TMS) and related software applications.
5. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify trends, patterns, and potential areas for improvement.
6. Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
